Doug graduated from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology Architecture Program in 1968. For the next eight years he worked in the general construction of shopping centers and warehouses.

In 1976, he and his wife started Royal Park Realty Corporation where they assisted their clients in the sale, purchase, and leasing of warehouses, shopping centers, and land.
